Signature Project – Wellington Point
Allan and Charlette Brown of Wellington Point had a reasonably-sized back yard that was overgrown and had an unused spa in the rear corner. Apparently, the only venture into the space at the back of the house was to hang the washing out! But a recent trip to Asia had left them wanting a modern-style ‘Thai’ garden.

As a result, the team installed a large fire pit into the middle of the back yard, surrounded by decomposed granite infill and a number of square slabs of slate to give access to the feature. Recycled Brisbane wharf posts, sanded and polished back to life, serve as seating around the fire pit, and rustic, laser-cut panels enclose the entertainment area. The minimalistic nature of the rest of the garden helps to continue the Asian theme, and a stone plinth, cladded with Australian black granite (manufactured on site), serves as the platform for a large Buddha statue, surrounded by Black Zen stones layered on the granite.

Similar concepts of low-maintenance and minimalism were adopted in the front yard; with a beautiful Hoobler stone wall, capped with a chunky black hardwood and a custom-made, Asian-style feature topping the driveway post, the Asian theme is certainly prevalent. Finally, the black granite boulder feature on the left of the driveway (the boulders sit on top of one another totally unsecured – a gift from mother nature!), tops off the front yard nicely. We love it and so does our client!
